If I could describe 2017 in one word, it would have to be - CHANGE. I feel like a lot has changed ever since my last post. One HUGE change has been that I finally got to to work from home as an independent interior designer under AG interior design. It’s been one week since I started and to be honest, it’s pretty weird!

I’ve worked with William & Wesley for about 10 years as a design assistant and everyone there has prepared me in in every way possible to work for myself. Learning the business side of owning a business was a huge learning curve for me but it was so exciting too. I could have never done this without WW’s help. I give them all the credit and I am so grateful for taking me in at such a young age.

On another note, it’s so weird having my own hours, working in my pajamas, and being with my kitties all day. I do miss interacting with my co-workers but I know this all goes along with working alone sometimes. I have also set some goals for the upcoming year and one of them on the list is to BLOG MORE! I might not have much to say now, but I promise I will get better and better. We are also headed to CO soon - who knows, we might just buy a cabin of some sort. Oh! the possibilities :)

SO here goes everything! Cheers to working more hours than I have ever known (lol!), bringing my laptop everywhere I go + everything else entrepreneurship has to offer! I am so ready.

Life Update

Wow! where has the time go?

Life has been quite crazy lately. From planning my nephews 6th birthday party to juggling all my personal clients on top of my regular job. I've been saying how much I've been needing a break but someway, somehow another client comes into my life. I'm so grateful for work though. I have two projects that are finishing up and I'm so excited to add professional interior design photos to my website. FINALLY! I can't wait for you guys to see.

Anyways, about August 15th!

Aurelio and I are heading back to CO to look at some apartments that we have been eyeing. I really hope the first one that we love works out for us but we will see. Pray for us! We are bringing my sister in law and my nephew with us this time! They are so happy and excited to see CO. I know they are going to love it as much as we do.

If you haven't been following me on IG, go follow now! Check out my social links on the side :)

Oh! and Tori will be back soon to post on our blog too so no worries! Everything is going good.

here is my baby indy.

We love you all!

Friday Faves!

Thank God it's Friday! This week has been a little crazy. I am ready to settle in a bit and hang out with my husband and family. We are visiting his family in Dallas today which will be fun. We haven't seen them in forever. We are also sitting down and planning our trip to Hot Springs, AR next month. We are headed that way for Aurelio's birthday weekend. So excited to treat him to something special.

Anyway - we have gathered our favorite top 6 rugs that we are loving currently. A rug can make or break a room, in my opinion. I'm very picky when it comes to my rugs. I like them to be thicker in material. I love sisal rugs too! Finding and inexpensive rug can be hard if you are looking for 8x10 or larger but I'm so glad we have sources like Wayfair and Joss & Main now! They have the best selection of inexpensive rugs. Here are our top 6 rugs we are loving!

You can play off basically any color in your furniture with this rug. I love the colors so much and it brings in a Bohemian theme in any space.

I love any rug that has those deep greys and hints of blue in them. Perfect for a neutral palette for sure.

We actually have this one and we love it so much too! We purchased a 8x10' for under $160! It goes great with our grey living room sofa and it's super soft for the kids to be on too.

This should be an all grey favorite rugs, right? We love grey around here. I've been eyeing this one for a while. This would be perfect for under a dining table since it's dark enough and very durable.

I love the blues in this one! Gorgeous.

This one I can see in a master or guest bedroom. A perfect design in a rug is always fun to introduce in a room, especially if it's a tone on tone. Love!

Do you guys have any favorite, inexpensive rugs? Have a great weekend!

Staying Motivated/Organized

Hi guys!  This week has been really rough for me, and I'm sure I wasn't the only one.  But guess what! Today is Sunday and we can start fresh with a new week tomorrow.  As I was deciding on what I should blog about this week, it hit me that a lot of people probably would prefer to hear a very real & raw post rather than one I felt obligated to write. Even if this week was the best week of your life, we all have times of hardship and troubles and I hope this post is something you can come back to.  Personally, anytime I am having a hard time it somehow ties to how unorganized and unmotivated I am being at the moment.  It's as if the messier my room or work space is, the messier my life is. LOL.  Sounds a little extreme, I'm sure.  But, next time you don't feel well emotionally or spiritually, take the time to look around and analyze & evaluate your current situation.  That would also be the perfect time to think about what you are prioritizing at the moment and to make any adjustments as needed.  Being disorganized causes not only physical disaster but also emotionally.  So, today... I'm going to share with you guys some motivation/organization tips. ( Since, in my book, they go hand-in-hand.) Hope these are helpful!

1. Go Outside

Seems simple.  But, when I'm binge watching Netflix, getting up and going outside is possibly one of the last things I feel like doing.  And I know I'm not the only one. ;) But there's something about getting up and taking a few steps outside your home that can really motivate you.  Literally, just go outside.  Take a walk, go to the lake, and if you are like me, just start with a cup of coffee in your backyard...  It can do wonders.

2. Clean Something

Anything.  Your bedroom, kitchen,  your car, work space, etc.  You don't have to go all out and scrub your toilet with your toothbrush, even just organizing a stack of papers sitting at your desk will spark the idea.  To me, a clean and livable space equals a clean and livable mind.

3. Write Something Down

Obviously, for me this comes pretty natural.  For others, it might not be as enjoyable or easy.  Sometimes even picking up the pen is hard work.  But, writing down how you are feeling is a way of letting go & letting loose.  Have you ever bottled up all of your emotions and then let it all out at once & suddenly you were okay? Yeah, that's what happens when you verbally or physically express your emotions.  Except here, journaling could be done more often and you wouldn't have to bottle it all up.  Once emotions are let out, you feel free and motivation and organization can come easier to you.

4. Talk to Somebody

And no I'm not asking you to "get help" from a professional... but I'm also not telling you to talk to your BFF you text everyday.  I mean, call up someone you haven't talked to in awhile. Like an old family friend, high school buddy, distant relative, etc. Don't tell them you are using them as a therapy session, though. ;) Just have a nice conversation.  A refreshing talk can really get your mind set in the right place.  And you never know, your grandma might have something interesting to say.

5. Don't Think

This one is weird.  This one is really weird.  Thinking is really all we do as humans.  But sometimes over thinking can take us down a twisted path and we can deceive ourselves into putting ourselves into a different situation than the one we really should be experiencing. Let your thoughts pass and create a better reality for yourself.  Motivation really and truly doesn't come from anything but yourself and your mind.  In order to stay organized you must be motivated, and to be motivated you cannot pressure yourself to think deep thoughts 24/7.  Have self control & enjoy what life has to offer you.

I really hope you guys can take something away from this and use these very simple practicals that I attempt to do everyday in order to keep myself sane. Do you guys have any motivation/organization tips? Let me know!

Happy Sunday

A Nature Inspired Home

Something my family always loved to do when I was younger was camping. I, personally, was not and still am not a big fan. But I can’t deny the sense of relief and relaxation, no matter how brief it was. Being outside, surrounded by trees, mountains, water, etc. is such a good feeling.  Nature is often used by people to inspire artwork, music, writing, and the like. But can you use nature to inspire home decor? Well, reader… of course ;) Interior design is just like any form of art and you can use anything and everything as inspiration!

When I think of “nature-inspired” home decor, I envision a lot of wood furniture, green accents, plants, shades of brown or tan, etc.  I just love the idea of incorporating nature within a space to bring the same "breath of fresh air" feeling you get as if you were outside.

Here are some of my favorite nature- themed interiors:

When people think of minimalism in terms of interior design, they typically tend to think of it more as a lack of design.  Which, isn't true.  Just because minimalism is absent of elaborate & intricate designs and styles doesn't mean there is no structure to how to the design is displayed.

A question a lot of people ask themselves is, why exactly is minimalism trending?  What is it about this style that is so satisfying?  I personally love this style because of how sharp & to the point it is.  You can tell a lot about a person by the way they design their home and minimalism expresses such a clean, simple, and free idea without losing a sense of purpose.  Minimalism is so easy to achieve and although it doesn't bring "warmth" to the home, it can still bring the cozy feeling we all know and love.

Now,  how is minimalistic design even achieved? Two words: Bare. Essentials.  You must consider what is a priority in the space you are minimizing. You should remove any extra items not necessary for everyday life. If you have a room full of furniture with ornate designs, it would not look minimal at all. Lamps, blankets, clothing racks, small plants, etc. are all good items to incorporate into your minimalistic home.  Another VERY necessary step into minimizing a space is to only integrate neutral  colors.  Bright colors can often open up a space, but when trying to achieve the "bare essential" vibe, neutral colors are the only way to go.  Again, these things can sometimes scare people into thinking they are losing identity within a space, but when minimalism is attained sufficiently, it is easy to encompass any sort of identity in the home.

All in all, minimalistic designs have been a hot trend since the 1960's and I believe will continue to do so.  It may seem easy to achieve minimalism, but it is actually harder to commit to the reduced mindset and to continue to capture the affect. But who doesn't love a little challenge? :)

Here are some of my favorite minimalistic interiors!

Happy weekend!

Tori's Bohemian Favorites

I cannot believe this year is already happening so fast- welcome to the second month of 2017!  Since I naturally have such an anxious personality, a mindset I set for myself this year was to be more easy going and relaxed. As February rolls around, I've got to keep in mind this goal and some inspiration for this relaxation I'm trying to achieve can even come from within! Within your home, that is. ;)

Using bohemian styles & accents, you can create a delicate vibe and an overall welcoming and open space. To me, bohemian themes go hand in hand with the idea of being "easy going". This mood board I created displays some of our favorite pieces and colors that are spot on for a classic bohemian bedroom.  Being "bohemian inspired" doesn't necessarily have to mean far-fetched or unconventional decor by any means. Adding different textures, patterns, and bursts of color can create the open atmosphere you desire. Bohemian styles are oftentimes so appealing for the artistic flavors and bursts of quiet energy that seem so comfortable and homey! And who wouldn't want a cozy home?

One of my particularly favorite trends is the colorful throw pillow. Adding a throw pillow, such as the one displayed in the board, to any space can add a hint of character. In this specific setting, it adds to the bohemian vibe by displaying more texture and color! As you can see, bohemian themes are one of my ALL TIME favorite styles of interior and it's so easy going, that it's practically timeless design.

Do you guys have any favorite bohemian trends?  Happy February! Xo

Our Top 10 Favorite Interiors/Exteriors Tumblr Accounts!

The weekend should not be ending so soon. Actually, this weekend was a pretty productive one overall. We got to see family for a quick second, we helped my nephew Jayden with his 100 item project, I finished painting two doors in our hallway, and I caught up on all my e-design projects. We had to collect 100 items of any kind and glue them a sheet of project paper. We went with a canvas and had a painting session which J loved! He said he wanted to paint more in the future. I love how creative he can be! My mom took me to At Home since I wanted to get some wicker basket storage for our bathroom reno. By the way, I can't wait to show you our bathroom renovation. The next things on my list is to paint the cabinets, add hardware, get lighting, buy the sink, and add the new counter top. That's actually a lot of things to do as I type this...anyways, I can't wait to show you the before and afters. That brings me to the point of this post...INTERIOR/EXTERIOR INSPO TUMBLR ACCOUNTS that we can't get enough of - Tumblr is the best source for inspiration for interior design overall, in my opinion. I seriously don't know how these people do it. I can be on Tumblr all day just wishing and hoping my place could look as good as the photo they post.

So today we are sharing our top 10 Tumblr accounts we can't get our eyes off of - you will thank us later :)

1. The Cozy Space

Minimalism, anyone? I have been loving anything Scandinavian and this page has been getting it lately! I'm a huge fan of all white so I can look at pretty photos with all white interiors all day. They also have all dark wall eye catching photos, which is pretty to look at for a long time.

This account has everything from modern to traditional. The one thing I absolutely love about this account is the amount of wood paneling design they have. I love a pop of wood texture anywhere.

I love how this account puts emphasis on creative and modern stairways. Go check it out for yourself. I just can't enough of unexpected wooden beams in this living space. Beautiful colors going on too. Ughh.

Almost in each photo of theirs, you see a touch of brass somewhere. I'm obsessed with brass accessories. :)

5. Volk13

A tiny and modular home blog - OKAY! Everyone knows how much Aurelio and I love tiny home living. This one is a must see for anything inspo tiny homes. The life of living tiny just amazes us.

An here is another of our favorites! Prefab! loving everything. If this doesn't make you want to get a tiny home then I don't know what will :) JK. It's okay, tiny living is not for everyone. We can also sit for hours and look at the beautiful lands most of these homes sit on.

This one is a little different but so pretty to look at when you want to get inspired by nature and architecture.

Decorlove is my go to for loft design inspo. Lofts are also one of my favorite spaces to look at. I would never live in one but the thought of it is nice. You could divide space into many different spaces which is great.

So when I feel edgy and inspired by classic design, Vintage Luxe is my favorite. Something about vintage...we always need something vintage in any space, in my opinion.

Last but not least - if you want an all around, any interiors tumblr account - you can come check out mine! :) I love Tumblr and I hope you find our list helpful.

Please share any other tumblr accounts you love with us.

We hope you all have a wonderful week ahead!

Our Top 5 Must Haves for your Kitchen

I treated my mom and my nephew, Jayden to a quick visit to the Dallas World Aquarium yesterday. It was pretty neat. I haven't been in forever, probably since I was 10 years old...that was ALONG TIME AGO! I'm about to be 28 so you do the math. The first thing I asked when I bought the tickets was "do you guys have any big cats?" (I AM TERRIFIED OF BIG CATS) The lady at the counter responded, "yes, we do - but people miss him since he's in the upper level of the building." WHAT! After the go-around, Jayden was the big guy and wanted to go upstairs. WHAT?! no thank you. Luckily, he forgot about heading up to see Mr. Jaguar. :)

Since we also celebrated my dad's 70th birthday, I baked two cakes that were delicious! One strawberry and one butter pecan. One day I will have my perfect and small dream kitchen so I can cook away for my friends and family. My parent's kitchen will just have to do it for now.

Today we wanted to share the top 5 must haves in the kitchen and the list could go on and on so imagine how hard it was for me to just keep it at five items. I can't wait to share more of our top favorite list with you all. Enjoy!

I love anything that is marbled out. Marble will never go out of style, in my opinion. It goes with anything.

This mixer is, so far, my favorite accessory in our kitchen. I use it at least 3x a month. By the way, Aurelio and I have started a NO SUGAR / NO FAST FOOD challenge for 2 weeks. So this kitchen accessory will be sitting pretty on the counter for a while. Other than this, it's the perfect gift for anyone who loves baking or cooking in general.

I love this style of hardware and I just wish we did these in my mom's kitchen when we were looking for hardware. If you're looking for a small change that will impact your kitchen design, hardware is always the best way to go.

I'm so glad Aurelio got me copper mugs about a month ago. You can't go wrong with owning a pair of these in your kitchen. You would definitely want to display them on your counter since they are super pretty. Drinks? anyone?

As many of you know, I love baking! I finally got one of these not too long ago. I have a glass stand but nothing beats with having a white cake stand to display your gorgeous 'to pretty to eat' cakes. I'm also thinking of joining a baking class to learn more but not now since, you know, our challenge (this is already going to be hard but we can do it.)

Do you have any favorite kitchen essentials you can't live without? Let me know!

I hope you all have a wonderful week.

A beautiful hike + the perfect Timbuk2 backpack

It's been three weeks since we came back from our CO trip and we miss it so much already. On one of our days, we headed up to Cheyenne Mountain State Park. We hiked for about 30 min until the snow was way too slippery to stand. It's pretty crazy hiking up snow since you never know what could be underneath. For example, when Aurelio decided to walk across a creek, not knowing there was even a creek underneath the snow. It was pretty hilarious actually. All we heard was cracking in the ice/snow and there goes my husband trying to survive. All this with my camera around his neck and his new messenger bag from Timbuk2. I love him for being such a good sport and climbing up a steep hill on the other side of the creek onto the road. I bet people thought he was one crazy bearded man. He sure did learn his lesson about hiking in snow. Overall, Cheyenne Mountain State Park was beautiful. I was hoping we would see some bears but no luck, just a couple deers.

For Christmas, I gave Aurelio a Timbuk2 messenger bag. The backpack he needed (wanted) was at the very top of his list so I wanted to surprise him before we headed to CO with his bag. Aurelio is a biker too so this backpack will definitely help him when he rides to work. He decided on the Spire 15-inch Macbook Laptop Backpack. When I opened the bag to wrap it up, I couldn't believe the quality of bags Timbuk2 made. They are all handmade in San Francisco. You can see their video here. We are all lovers of handmade products within the US so I has so happy when he opened up his gift and saw the first thing I got him. In fact, we loved Timbuk2 bags so much, we got another one for his sister and she loved it. The Spire backpack has loads of storage for everyday necessities for the avid biker and perfect for a 15-inch laptop. It has extra support that can be tied around your stomach for more support. This came in handy for Aurelio when he was hiking which was awesome!

Do you guys have any favorite travel bags? Let us know about them!

A Tiny Home Made for Us

I guess you can say that Aurelio and I have been wanting a tiny home for about a six months now. i was the one who initially fell in love with them and the overall lifestyle of living tiny. Aurelio was the one who needed convincing when I first talked to him about a tiny home. I was always so scared of people talking us out of it. To be honest, some people already have good points on why we shouldn't own one which made me want to get one even more. I know, I know - you've seen those episodes on TV all about tiny home living. When people say this to me, I wait until they begin telling me things about how THEY couldn't even start to think about living in one. That's just the point - they couldn't but WE can. I remember watching one of the tiny home episodes when Aurelio sat next to me then saw all the potential and financial freedom we could get from living tiny. HE WAS FINALLY ON THE SAME PAGE AS I WAS, which made me super excited and happy! This could be an investment for us which was one of the main points for us.

For New Years, we decided to take a trip up to CO. I really wanted to go skiing this time around (we have been to CO so many times now) but I got sick the first few days there. It was nice to stay in the hotel though. When Aurelio searched up tiny home builders, Tumbleweeds Tiny Homes came up so that was our main point in going to Colorado Springs this time. We were hopeful we could get all the information we could about living tiny. Well, WE SURE DID! We even got to walk into some tiny homes they were building at that point. Tumbleweeds Tiny Homes designate times specifically for tours so we were so excited to see everything they had to offer AND can I just say, all of their tiny homes are RVIA certified which makes them RV certified if they build them for you.

After the tour was done, the sweet tour lady asked if anybody was ready to speak to a sales person. Lucky for us, we actually booked a meeting two weeks in advance with one of their sales people. His name was Ray and we had such a wonderful time talking about everything from our own questions and concerns to our finances. Overall everyone there helped us out ALOT. When the meeting was over, we knew exactly what we needed to do now. WE WANT TO GO TINY AND WE DON'T CARE WHAT ANYBODY SAYS.

As you may know, we absolutely love Colorado. We would like to travel to more states with more nature-esque sights but we would also like to bring a tiny home along if we could. At first we were thinking about an RV but at the end of the day, we loved what a tiny home could do for us. You see, we couldn't really rent out an RV if we wanted to. We could sell it, of coarse, but we wouldn't have anything anymore to travel. Aside from all this, we want to buy a small piece of land in CO and place our tiny home there. Anytime other people want that tiny home experience for 2-3 days, we could have our tiny home on our land ready for use. This is actually where we are at now. There's a process for everything apparently LOL. We know what we need/want. Many communities haven't gone tiny just YET but having a Tumbleweeds tiny home makes it easier since they are RV certified. We are patiently waiting to hear back from one potential property that we are eyeing but if it doesn't work out then, on to the next one, right? We just need to make sure we have the land first before anything. This also gives us time to bring in a larger deposit.

Overall Aurelio and I are super excited for this year. I know there will be setbacks but it's going to be so worth it. Here are some photos from our tour. Just look at Aurelio's face in the photos. He looks so happy LOL. This is something I never thought would happen. By the way, if you visit Tumbleweed's page, we are looking at the Roanoke tiny home. It's a beauty in real life.

Yay for tiny home photos! They were actually so much bigger in person. Anyway, thank you for all the support. We love you all! If you guys are not following me on IG >> follow me here! >>>

I am posting all of our travel photos from this trip.

2017 > 2016

As 2016 comes to an end, I am ready to give you guys more blog posts. I know I haven't been great at posting to my blog but I would seriously love to post more in 2017 and that's exactly what I'm planning on doing. I just want to write more and let you all know all my feelings. I've been super inspired to get things going with this blog. So here are my goals for this year:

Pray more
Post once a week for you guys
Lose 15 lbs LOL
Yoga way more than I did in 2016
Head out to more blogger events
Put down a deposit on a TINY HOME! (blog post coming next week)
Eat way more veggies, preferably spinach!
Brunch more with my love

Those are my main goals for this new year and I'm pretty excited. Can I also let you guys know that my love and I are currently in Colorado. We spent the New Years cuddled in bed and watching back to back episodes of Superstore on Hulu. I know! but it was the most amazing New Years we have had ever. No loud people around us, no drinking (maybe one mimosa for brunch but that's about it), no firecrackers. Just us. We actually laid in bed and talked about our goals for the New Year. Aurelio gets me so inspired. I love how he's so inspired to get things done for us and himself.

I can't wait to share more photos from this trip. We actually had a purpose to come out this time but I will let you know all about it on next weeks post.

Us right after Aurelio stepped over a snowy path over a creek and almost lost his life. (NOT REALLY) As we both heard cracking in the path, he nearly fell into a creek of 6" water. He is fine but it was pretty terrifying knowing that there was an actual creek running underneath all that snow and ice. He is such a risk taker sometimes lol!

Love you all & HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
